Episode #85 – Flashback to ‘Throwdown’ and ‘Wheels’

Hosted by Natalie Fisher, Caitlin Kelly, Mitchel Clow, and Jack Farrugia

July 27, 2014

Glee Chat hates on them haters in another flashback recap for Glee season 1, episode 7, “Throwdown” and episode 9, “Wheels.”

Glee season 1, episode 7, “Throwdown”

-We compare Rachel to a large corporation.
-Maybe Rachel would have reacted differently during Funny Girl if Finn was still around.
-There seemed to be a big liberty that the actors took with the choreography in these episodes.
-The satire on what was considered a minority was hilarious and accurate.
-Figgens is a hidden jem.
-Would Glee have a joke like the Rachel underwear plot in the more recent seasons?
-“Ride Wit Me” was freakin fantastic. Why aren’t there more moments like this? Like, live singing goes miles.
-So did everyone get to choose their seats in the choir room? We can be sure that they probably don’t nowadays…
-We wish the camera would just stay on the performance at one angle.
-The Dr. was 120% done with everyone’s shit.
-Seriously. Terry’s sister is comedic gold.
-Will wasn’t being confident when asking Terry to make dinner. He was just being a dick.
-Why is Glee not narrated by Brad.
-Kurt had a great little moment with Quinn during “Keep Holdin’ On.”

Glee season 1, episode 9, “Wheels”

-Why do so many songs that are meant for Sectionals, never actually performed at Sectionals…
-Really, Will? Spend money on wheelchairs to teach a lesson, when you really need money for the Handicap-able bus?
-Becky, before she sexaulized every hateful word to come out of her mouth. She was actually pretty cute!
-It was interesting seeing our first look of Sue being genuinely kind, especially with her sister Jean.
-Caitlin is almost convinced to feel bad for Quinn.
-Terry is twisted for getting so intense with a high school girl.
-Puck feels very strong toward Quinn, and would even steal from the cupcake fund to make sure she has everything she needs.
-The food fight scene is very important to Natalie. Yay for natural acting Quinn!
-Come on, Will really couldn’t have broken up that fight.
-Is a bake sale really that horrible of a thing to have to do?
-“Proud Mary” is an intense and ambitious performance.
-Finn has really violent moments that stick with us whenever they happen.
-Puck’s pot plotline was hilarious and goodhearted, even though it was so terrible of a thing for him to do.
-Quinn’s redemption in this episode came from her denying Puck of the wheelchair money.
-Puck gets really stressed out about bake sales. Obviously, Shue.
-“Defying Gravity” has real-life connections to Chris Colfer’s past.
-It’s really ironic that Kurt blows the note on the song that’s all about defying gravity…
-Burt’s yelling at Figgens and Shue showed how hard he’s reaching out to understand his very unique son.
-Kurt’s still going to be made fun of, even if he doesn’t sing “Defying Gravity.” It’s sad that he doesn’t achieve too much from this chivalrous act.
-This episode avoided feeling like an after school special episode successfully.
-What an important, strong early episode of Glee. And also, it was a great comeback from a mini hiatus right before it!
-It was a good thing that there wasn’t any Terry and Shue baby drama in this episode; we deserved a break.
-The next episodes that we’ll be doing are 1×10 “Ballad” and 1×13 “Sectionals.”
-We’re really excited for some Jesse. Seriously, he needs to come back for season 6.
