Glee Chat returns with a special episode to talk about the sudden and tragic passing of Cory Monteith, one of the most beloved cast members of Glee.

This week, John, Natalie, Mitch and special returning guest Megan get together for an emotional tribute to Glee’s Cory Monteith. Here’s what to expect from this week’s somber episode:

– We all explain where we were when we found out the news
– One Glee Chat host broke the news to a few others
– We read some of the Glee cast’s reactions
– Did most of the cast find out the way the rest of the world did: through the media?
– Our hearts go out to Lea Michele
– What does this mean for Glee season 5?
– There’s no way they can continue with production on season 5…is there?
– We talk about what Glee should and shouldn’t do with Finn’s character
– We all remember our favorite Finn/Cory performance and moment from his 4 seasons
– We read some very touching and beautiful fan e-mail
– Thanks to all of the Glee Chat fans who checked in on us to make sure we were okay. <3

Our hearts go out to the cast and crew of Glee, as well as Cory Monteith’s family and friends in this very tragic and unexpected moment. From all of us here at Glee Chat, we send out hearts out to all of this incredible fandom who despite tragedy and loss have found a way to rise above and remember one of the most special people we’ve come to love and know.

This episode's hosts: John Thrasher, Mitch Clow, Natalie Fisher and special returning guest Megan Stoll

Hi, guys, hope you are all ok. This has hit everybody really hard and I cannot stop thinking about Lea and what she must be going through right now.

  • Ash T

Thanks for the episode, guys! It was great to hear from you after hearing this tragic news. I, like John, had been at a party on Saturday when I recieved a text with the news. I just couldn’t believe it. Such a talented man.

  • Maria

I first found out through that first Hypable article early Sunday morning…Thank you all so much for making this. It’s still a lot to process so it’s good to hear other people who really respected Cory talk about him. :’)

  • Marie

I actually did see a short YouTube clip of Darren getting bothered by the paparazzi (although there was a weird Spanish VoiceOver so I couldn’t hear what they were saying), but I did hear Darren say something about them spreading gossip, so I guess he didn’t initially believe it. It is a totally shitty thing to happen, and I feel so bad for the entire cast and Cory’s family.

I held it together this entire episode, but when Natalie said “bye Cory” I completely lost it. And then the star scene that you played after..oh my God. He’s really gone. Thank you so much for making this episode,I think it helped me emotionally grasp the situation a bit more, and it’s nice to know the whole fandom is out there grieving together. Something about this feels very final though, and I can’t even imagine Glee going on now. I’m torn between wanting the comfort of my favorite show back and knowing it will never be the same. Whatever happens, I just hope there will still be Glee chat because you guys are amazing.

I also got a text at around midnight from my friend saying that “the main glee guy died” and it broke my heart before I even knew it was Cory. Thanks for this podcast, I stopped watching the show after season two but glee will always have a special place in my heart.

My favorite is still Can’t Fight This Feeling. It’s such a good song for Finn, and it seems like the kind of thing he would sing in the shower. And it reminds me how far he progressed in the show.

After listening to this episode and reading Selina’s article, I’ve been thinking a bit about what the best step for the show is, and while I don’t think the show will ever be the same, ending the show doesn’t seem like the right course of action. I do agree that it would be too soon to start back up in September, though. I think the best way to deal with the situation will probably come to the show runners with time after they’ve began to cope with it themselves; decisions about the plot (e.g. whether to have Finn die or give him a “happy ending”, or to just deal with his death after a time jump) will come easier after a few months or a year when everyone involved has had time to grieve and reflect themselves. No matter what plot choice they make for Finn’s character, it feels so wrong to just end the show since if a similar tragedy happened in the show’s canon, I feel like Finn would be the first one to say that Glee club had to keep going. I don’t really know much about Cory Monteith himself other than his depiction of Finn on Glee, though, so I can’t say what he would want to happen to the show. Those are just my thoughts as a fan of Glee.

I don’t think it should end, in part for my own selfish reasons of loving the show, and that I think the cast could return to a place where they could work on it.

As for Lea, maybe (big maybe), she could act out reacting to Finn’s death. She might find it cathartic, even. I honestly don’t know, and I think that decision should be up to her. Either way, I’d respect her decision.

OK, I haven’t listened in a long while…. but, what happened to Coty? He was one of my favorite hosts! Come back Coty!

  • thegarbar13

I don’t know if I’m ready for this yet.

    • rydel

me neither but I miss him

  • Sasha A. Khan

I haven’t even listened to the episode yet, and just this article has me tearing up.

I’ve always enjoyed your podcast because I would love to be able to discuss Glee and dissect the episodes and news with friends, but none of my friends are remotely into Glee to the extent I am. I felt real solidarity with your Cory episode, and especially came back to revisit it tonight after my stupid local TV (I’m in Australia) thought showing ”The Break-up” tonight was a good idea. Gosh, it’s too soon. Devestated at a whole new level about Klaine breaking up and the Rachel and Finn fight. And Rachel says to Finn “You are my first love…..and I want more than anything for you to be my last”. I know you guys would understand why I was bawling by the end. I don’t know how the cast are going to be able to face filming in the next few weeks, and eventually how we can watch it, considering this time the emotions won’t be acted but horribly real.

I miss cory and cabnt believe he is gone
