Here’s a crack theory, maybe Dr. Whale is JAFAR!!! lmfao

    • Simone

I hope not :( I really want to see Jafar but I was already disappointed with how Maleficent’s look and personality veered too far from her traditional look. I want Jafar to be ethnic. I know Once Upon A Time is all about changing the stories and looks of characters but there are some I just want the same you know?

      • Martrel A. Howard

i know he could also be uh Mordred or Merlin? Considering he said “you are not my prince”

        • Simone

^ yeah I agree that the prince line was really not a throwaway

  • Megan Buchner

I still think that the mystery man is either Henry’s Father or Bae,

  • theaterboy1

My first thought when Henry shouted “Mom” after Emma and Mary Margaret were pulled into the hat was that he was looking for Emma, but I could be wrong. As for who Dr. Whale is, the “you are not my prince” line definitely comes into play. This leads me to believe that he is from another realm (like maybe a knight of the round table from King Arthur or someone else). My favorite line from the whole episode was when Snow White tells Charming about her one night stand and she uses the excuse that they were cursed. As far as who the mystery man was at the beginning of the episode, I’m with everyone else in thinking that it is Bae!

  • Tonya and Kenny

I think Dr.Whale is one of the original knight who protected James’s brother. I say this because of the “you’re not my prince” comment.

In “The Stranger” August does mention where he was before coming to Storybrook, because it was 8:15 in the morning that he felt the first pain shoot up his leg (I don’t remember the name of the place, just that it would mean he was on the other side of the planet, so it is understandable it would take him a while to get there).

As far as what Rumple did, I think it was this: He used the wishing well to ‘wish’ for his ‘true love’ (magic) back to him by offering the well the potion. August mentioned that the special property of the well was to able to bring back something that was lost, which we know was set up for giving Emma Henry’s book back. So I think that Rumple was bringing back magic in the hopes that he could use it here to find his son.

    • RabbitRabbit

in the Red episode he told her about his travels and how he saw lemurs.
that’s what caused her to want to stop working at Grannies

  • Brie

Ok, so I just finished listening to the podcast and had some ideas!

    1) You were mentioning something about how everyone is in a pickle if Emma is the one who can bring back magic, only brought it to Regina, and then left to go to Other Fairy Tale Land. That might be true, but what if Henry can unlock magic too? They are mother-son after all!!

    2) I’ve posted this in another article, but could Whale be Hades? If the Storybrooke occupations have anything to do with their other selves, doctors work with the sick and dying and it was Hades’ job to guide souls to their final resting place. And given his history with Zeus getting Olympus, Hades would be sure to have a problem with authority figures, hence the “not my prince” comment. It would also explain why no one knew who he was. And it also would be in line with Whale’s womanizing. Plus…maybe that would set up a trip to the underworld to go reclaim Phillip’s sucked out soul!!! Of course, this isn’t technically a fairy tale so it’s probably not right, but it’s an interesting theory.

    3) I definitely think the Mystery Man (MM) is Bae and Henry’s father rolled into one. As to who sent him the postcard, I don’t have a clue, but I’m also leaning toward August. I think this was the person August was on the phone with last season. BUT…I do think that we would have seen August if he had been brought back to life when the curse was broken, so maybe not. But if MM is Bae, how did he know about Storybrooke in the first place?

    4) Isn’t it interesting how this season of OUAT opened much the same way as the second season of Lost? Think about it – for Lost, many of us thought we were watching the wrong show at first. We were in the hatch while Desmond (a MM at that time), was listening to “Make Your Own Kind of Music” on a record player. Then the scene shifted, the story continued, and no mention was ever made of Desmond again that episode. Same thing here!

    5) I’m also dying to know why Sleeping Beauty land was not sent to Storybrooke. It sounded like it was on the edge of the realm, so that might be why, but it doesn’t explain why Mulan would be in that area when the curse hit anyway. Could it be connected to the doors we saw last season?

    • Brie

And then I found this from the OUAT FB page:

I honestly didn’t see that before I came up with my Hades crack theory, but this even supports it!

      Archie notes that Whale has:
      -an inflated sense of self
      -classic “god” complex
-frames himself as a victor in all conflicts
-feel persecuted and misunderstood – paranoia?

      Think about it!!

      • Brie

And one more thing – did they forget about finding Kathryn completely in this episode?! I think so!

      • RabbitRabbit

Idk why but all of these hints point me to Peter Pan. this is probably aided by the fact that I had to read the book recently.

I assumed if Hook is coming to Storybrooke, then Peter Pan should too, or should already be there.
It explains why he is SO mad at Regina. Because he had to grow up, a result of the curse.
Peter Pan has an inflated sense of self, a god complex and he always wins (he would change the rules of the game so he could win).
Peter Pan lived in his own world, he had no authority, no prince. which explains his defiance against Charming.
He has an infatuation with the fairies of Storybrooke (asking Charming if he could date Blue because she’s not a nun anymore).

I;m probably wrong, but Peter Pan is the first character that comes to mind when I try to identify Whale.

  • K8_8K

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Regina get the curse from Maleficent? Maybe that’s why The Sleeping Beauty kingdom (for a lack of another name) wasn’t hit by the curse – so Maleficent could enact her own revenge. My other theory why the curse didn’t hit it was because the kingdom was placed under a stasis spell by the fairies when they realized Aurora was permanently asleep (or at least according to Disney).

  • Peggy Ruiz

Mystery guy is The White Rabbit. If Jefferson sent him the pidgeon, that is.

  • Zach Natre

Crackpot theory that answers many questions:

    get magic, Regina
made a deal with Rumplestilskin, for her firstborn son.

never thought that she would love again, so she thought that he would
    never be able to collect

married and birthed a son, Rumple came for it

    She refused
    to give it to him

sent Jefferson to get the child

sent the child (by way of Jefferson) to
    Neverland (peter pan)

    Regina hates Rumple and Jefferson

    Regina wants Henry
to replace the son she lost, he reminds her of her son

    • Zach Natre

ok…first ever post and it turned out weird…sorry
