We are back with episode four of WhoHype. The show is dedicated to in-depth discussion about the Doctor Who universe: show and cast commentary, filming locations, rumors, tie-in video games/other products, spin-off series and more.

Don’t worry if you are trying to stay spoiler free for the upcoming series. We even have a specially marked spoiler section with a little help from River Song herself so listeners can skip around that information if they wish.

The four hosts of the show are from around the globe: the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Hypable’s regular Doctor Who writers, Laura Byrne-Cristiano and Harri Sargeant, lead the discussion with two additional Doctor Who fans from the staff joining us: Jennifer Lamoureux and Natalie Fisher.

- During the intros this week, Natalie quizzes the other hosts on their meet-up. What happens in Oxford, stays in Oxford! Harri also has a new mic and his computer doesn’t decide to overheat n the middle of the podcast, so the sound is much improved.

- We proceed with an in-depth discussion of:

  • What happened at last year’s Comic Con and what we can expect this year with Jen and Laura reporting from the show
  • Episode titles and what they may mean
  • New guest stars and what we think of them
  • Why did they change the logo?
  • Find out why Colin Baker is in the doghouse

Our spoilers cover the specifics of a recently filmed episode, re-filming again, aliens confirmation, and filming locations

- Back from our spoilery discussion we leap into our mailbag, and answer questions from our listeners:

  • What will bring show diversity
  • How last week’s comments inspired a fan at an animal shelter

As we say in the show, our listeners are the most important thing to us. We want you hear from you. What do you want us to discuss?

Maybe The Dalek epsoide is refering to how the Doctor will give the Dalek’s a final home to live forever, without murdering others.

I don’t think he’d ever go that easy on the Daleks, so long as they’re alive they are a threat to the universe, they don’t know any other life. Unless their new home was cut off from the universe.

So they’re going to live on The House?

        • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

Nah they couldn’t, because House was destroyed and because of that so was the asteroid the House had resided in. I think ultimately The Doctor is going to be forced to destroy the Daleks and possibly the timelords in the timelock for good – finally ending the time war. That wouldn’t be until the very last episode ever of the series though, just my theory.

You guys talked about the multiple Victorian episodes, and how maybe the premise is that the Tardis is stuck there because of damage. Maybe it is a 3-part serial, like they did with the season 3 (new who) finale. It is not unusual for multi-part episodes to take place over a number of days, so that could explain the new hair/clothing for Jenna Louise-Coleman’s character.

Thanks for the wonderful episodes! I don’t have any other friends who are Who fans, so its nice to hear others talk about. Its also a great way to keep up on news and filming updates.

About the Eleventh Hour connection to Amy/Rory’s final episode…

It could be about the duck pond for the same reason that Laura brought up. It could be along the lines of the bees in series four. I mean, most birds (and most animals in general) have a sense when something bad is happening in nature. So it makes sense that the empty duck pond could be significant.

I was wondering about this, though. Was it ever confirmed that the Atraxi actually executed Prisoner Zero after he was recaptured? (Note: The DW Wiki page for Prisoner Zero mentions that the Atraxi were supposed to take him back for execution.) That could be another possibility, right? How do we know that he didn’t escape again?

Also, a correction about Rory’s hospital badge… The year listed on the badge is not a birth-date, but the year his badge was issued, which still doesn’t make sense at all. I hope that it was just a goof on the prop department’s part.

Great show! I look forward to every new episode!

I’m going to take two theories from both the definitions I found on Wikipedia:

Insane asylum, an obsolete type of institution for housing those deemed “insane”
Asylum (antiquity), places of refuge in ancient Greece and Rome

My theory is that along with the reintroduction to the Daleks of old we are going to be introduced to a completely new kind of Dalek, Daleks that may not be allied with the new (colourful) Daleks. They’ll behave differently, a regenade bunch seeking to destroy the new Daleks. Someone mentioned the Daleks being pulled out of time, could it be that perhaps they’re being taken out of time because a Dalek of the past has seen that the new Daleks will bring about their downfall? perhaps an order to kill pure Daleks (something that contradicts their entire existence) and being pulled out of time would drive them insane. So they are stuck on a planet of safety with instructions to kill but they can’t function or handle it. Therefore where they are would literally be both an asylum for housing the insane AND a place of refuge. I have a feeling that at least some of these Daleks are sort of going to be on the Doctor’s side.

Second theory – are they going to go ‘The Stolen Earth’ root and pull the Dalek’s home world out of time? Would explain why every Dalek in existence is there.

    I’m way off I’m sure.

So random story about the closeness of fandoms. Back in 2009, I went to LeakyCon. Me and my mom were walking through Boston trying to find the hotel, when suddenly two girls wearing LeakyCon staff badges, stop us ask us if we were there for the con, and then gave us directions. After they left my mom looked at me and asked how they knew we were going. I told her they recognized my Pickle Pack shirt. It was a really cool moment for me to realize how connected we all were to the fandom and how helpful and nice they all are.

For those who don’t know, Pickle Pack was a paid fan club for Mugglecast that lasted only a year and those who signed up got a short that doesn’t have anything to do with Harry Potter except for the word Mugglecast on there once.
