The 2014 Academy Awards have announced two performers for this year’s ceremony taking place a week from Sunday.
First, pop superstar Pink is set for some sort of performance that is being kept under wraps.
Said Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron in a statement, “We are very excited to welcome Pink to the Oscar stage for the very first time. She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”
It’s easy to assume that Pink will be singing – but for what? The “In Memoriam” segment? A different type of tribute? As she proved at the Grammys earlier this month, she’s one of Hollywood’s best live performers right now.
Pink appeared in the ensemble drama Thanks for Sharing starring Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins and Gwyneth Paltrow last year.
In related news, the Oscars announced earlier this week that Bette Midler will perform for her first time at the event. “We are thrilled to have Bette perform on the Oscars for the very first time,” said Zadan and Meron. “We believe she will make our Oscar telecast an especially moving evening.”
Like Pink, we don’t know what Midler’s involvement will be with the telecast.
The 2014 Academy Awards will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres Sunday, March 2 on ABC. Hypable will be attending the press room where the winners will speak after receiving their Oscar(s), and we’ll have a report up afterward. We’ll also be keeping track of winners as they’re announced.
