Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower is now in theaters! The film stars Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Ezra Miller.
Chbosky wrote the original book, which was published in 1999, and he took on the film after realizing he couldn’t let anyone else have control of the story. “I love a lot of filmmakers out there,” he told us at the Los Angeles premiere a couple weeks ago. “I really admire Cameron Crowe. There are so many people I think are tremendous. Jason Reitman is great.” But ultimately it came down to being “very true” to the story. “I know what [the story] means to some kids. I could not mess it up.”
While making the press rounds in recent weeks, Chbosky went so far to say that he’s thought about a sequel for the film. “I’ve thought about it. And I’ll tell you, honest truth, not in terms of the book, but I love these kids so much that I kind of want to bring them together one more time,” he told E! Online. If the film is a success in theaters, we could see Summit and Chbosky trying to move forward with the idea.
