According to two separate reports, Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) and Scoot McNairy (Monsters) are the latest to join the cast of Shame director Steve McQueen’s upcoming film Twelve Years a Slave, joining Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt.
The film follows a man living in 1800s New York who is recruited to join the circus as a violinist, only to be kidnapped and sold into slavery in Louisiana.
As Deadline reports, Dano will return to a more sinister role, playing one of the brutal slave owners.
McNairy, meanwhile, is reuniting with his Killing Them Softly co-star Brad Pitt, joining the cast as a circus worker who masterminds the kidnapping. Variety also adds that up-and-comer Ruth Negga (The Samaritan) will play a runaway slave in the film.
The film is based on Solomon Northup’s 1853 memoir and stars Ejiofor as the protagonist. Fassbender, meanwhile, is on board as the Louisiana plantation owner, with Pitt and Pariah star Adepero Oduye rounding out the reported cast. Are you excited for this one?
