Outlander will air its final episode of season 1 tonight, and then it’s back to Droughtlander again.
Fans of Outlander have been on one heck of a journey this season. Last August we were introduced to Claire and her fall through the stones. Like Claire (Caitriona Balfe) , we left behind the modern world with the reliable Frank (Tobias Menzies), and found ourselves in 18th century Scotland where we felt out of place and out of time. Of course there was James Alexander Malcom McKenzie Fraser (Sam Hueghan) to make things easier, and we fell in love with him along with Claire. At the same time, no good story is without high stakes, and Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) certainly brought those.
For tonight’s episode, we want to avoid adding any more hyperbole to the build up. Obviously, anyone who has been watching the show, book reader and non-book reader alike, knows that the finale will be dealing with some tough material. Our best advice is this: pour yourself a wee dram (or maybe a double), grab some tissues, and take in the experience of the final episode. Outlander won’t be back for season 2 until spring 2016 at the earliest.
One thing that fans should have to look forward to are this year’s Emmy nominations. The series should garner nominations for casting, costumes, series, and sound editing not to mention writing. On the performance side, Balfe, Heughan, and Menzies all turned in tremendous performances this season, with Menzies’ performance being on another level entirely.
