Who will sing?

More like who will not sing? The running list of musically adept cast members seems to grow everyday. But expect to see all your favorite characters playing their part in the company. Emma and Hook will each have a song, and expect to see Charming and Snow look adorable singing to one another. The now powerless Zelena, Regina, Henry, and town supporters Granny and Geppetto will get in on the action!

Even Grumpy will throw his voice into the mix, hopefully not cutting in to yell about another curse!

How many songs will there be?

There will be seven songs in the OUAT musical. One detail, revealed by EW, hints that Hook’s number will take place in a flashback. Adam Horowitz tells EW, “It fits tonally in what a pirate would be thinking and what Hook would be thinking and therefore singing at the time we see him, which is kind of a pirate with a dark streak.”

Additionally, Horowitz adds, “These songs surpassed our expectations when we heard them, and then when we heard our cast and what they could do with them, it surpassed even further.”

All seven songs are original numbers for the Once Upon a Time musical episode.

Emma’s wedding dress

Jennifer Morrison adds some of her behind the scenes details to the stunning photos of her wedding dress. In her Instagram post, Morrison writes, “Eddy, Adam, Eduardo [Castro] and I felt it would be wonderful to pull from the real life fairytale of Grace Kelly. It is a dress that represents the elegance and simplicity of classic timeless strength mixed with the delicacy of femininity and vulnerability. It is the ultimate balance that Emma has been fighting for throughout the 6 seasons.”

Morrison looks stunning in the gown and we’re sure Hook will agree on the big day.

What will the music reveal?

Once Upon a Time musical is not just about getting Emma down the aisle. The wedding tells only one part of her journey. The music will tell the other. Adam and Eddy are both quiet on how exactly the musical breaks out in Storybrooke. But they do add that the wedding has been the goal for quite some time.

Horowitz says, “[The musical] felt like the right place. Hopefully, when you see how the device works within the episode and how it relates to Emma and her character journey, it all seems to make sense that it would lead up to this.”

One idea we have is that Emma has yet to experience the quintessential Disney experience. It’s no secret that Disney finds its way into Once more often than not. And we’re not just talking about the direct nods to characters from Brave or Frozen.

Emma grew up in a realm where Mickey Mouse and Disney princesses all began and ended their stories with the assistance of Alan Menken and the Sherman brothers. She mentions Hook’s curls from the Peter Pan of he childhood. We even saw Emma sitting in the movie theater watching the Sorcerer’s Stone with Merlin watching by her side.

This is going to be a shock to the system for everyone. Music is noticeably absent from the Once Upon a Time universe aside from the stunning score.

Singing expresses inner truth. If Snow and Charming are singing about love, Hook reflects on the man he once was, what will Emma sing about? Emma has accepted a ton of oddball circumstances to call Storybrooke her home. Could this be the final barrier that makes her acceptance of a family and place she can finally call her own?

Think of The Flash/Supergirl musical crossover. Barry and Kara had to finish their story in order to get home. They had to lean into the music and become a part of the world.

Emma, and the rest of the Storybrooke crew, will literally put themselves on stage for this unique fairytale.

Happily ever after? Finally?

Can any wedding in any television show ever go off without a hitch? Never. The episode builds towards the wedding, which will have a “few surprises” of its own. If David’s pickiness about the venue reveals anything, expect to see a few hiccups as he and Snow try to make their daughter’s perfect day a royal affair.
