Once Upon a Time season 6, episode 5 drops a major bomb — Aladdin’s been in Storybrooke for a long time! Here’s all the times the town needed him.
Once Upon a Time‘s latest addition has been around a lot longer than you’d think. You have to hand it to our pal, Al. When he commits to something, like not being the Savior anymore, he really commits.
Magical items go missing or trade hands in Storybrooke faster than Emma can sprinkle cinnamon on her hot chocolate. Imagine if someone from the Enchanted Forest made their way to Storybrooke with great skill in the art of thievery?
Robin Hood and his Merry Men are not the only crew to make the forest of Storybrooke a refuge for thieves. Aladdin, apparently, is not only currently dwelling in the lesser known parts of the town, but he has lived there since the curse brought everyone over the first time.
Presumably, he knows all the best places to hide and abandoned farm houses the area has to offer.
Aladdin is worse than an innocent bystander. He chooses to hang out on the outskirts of all the trouble that plagues the town. He lives a shared experience, yet chooses to go about it alone. Is it the guilt of fleeing Agrahbah that weighs him down?
Even so, what better way to rid yourself of the abandonment blues than making a fresh start with a new group of people?
Even if Aladdin did not want to step into the shoes of a hero, why did he keep the Savior mythology to himself? Not cool, Aladdin. Not cool.
The hosts of Onceable, Brittany, Karen, and Kristen brainstorm all the times Aladdin could have been useful.
- How about when Rumple gave Belle a dummy-dagger?
- Plenty of magic beans ended up in the wrong hands
- Anytime Regina or Rumpel took someone’s heart (Graham, anyone?)
- Could he have replaced Regina’s poisoned apples with regular ones way back in season one?
- Or when they needed to get the Olympian crystal out of the wrong hands?
- When Henry was trying to get close to Grandpa Rumpel, Aladdin could’ve run recon
- Literally any time someone was making a deal with Rumpel for something in his shop
- So many missed opportunities for jail breaks!
- He could have saved them a lot of trouble by taking the quill from the Author
- Stealing Belle back from Rumpel while she was in the box
- Real potion, fake potion, have Aladdin steal both from Jekyll and Hyde
- When the folks from Camelot were looking for the magic mushroom aka the Crimson Crown
- They could have used an extra set of eyes on John and Michael Darling
- Or some assistance when the evil trio took over town and kidnapped August
- How about freeing Rumpel from Zelena’s captivity?
- Sneaking into Dark Emma’s basement to find out what was going on
- If he lived in the outskirts of town he could have located any random people who made their way into town
- And, perhaps, the most important task of all — Where was he anytime Zelena kidnapped a child?
The heroes of Storybrooke are resourceful. There is no denying that. But imagine if Aladdin’s deft hands were around for the entirety of the series?
