‘The Newsroom’ receives DGA nomination
Greg Mottola, director of 1×01 “We Just Decided To” has been nominated for a Directors Guild of American award in the Dramatic Series category. This first episode of The Newsroom has some tough competition, as it is up against both Breaking Bad and Homeland. The entire category is:
Michael Cuesta, Showtime’s Homeland, “The Choice”
Jennifer Getzinger, AMC’s Mad Men, “A Little Kiss”
Lesli Linka Glatter, Showtime’s Homeland, “Q&A”
Rian Johnson, AMC’s Breaking Bad, “Fifty-One”
Greg Mottola, HBO’s The Newsroom, “We Just Decided To”
Mottola, who is co-executive producer on The Newsroom, also directed 1×03 “The 112th Congress” and season 1 finale 1×01 “The Greater Fool.” Several Newsroom stars tweeted him offering their congratulations, including the onscreen love-triangle of John Gallagher, Jr., Thomas Sadoski and Alison Pill, who all jokingly begged Mottola to hire them again.
‘The Newsroom’ stars at the Golden Globe awards
Stars of The Newsroom flocked to the Golden Globes earlier this week to support their show in two categories – Best Television Series, Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series for Jeff Daniels. Unfortunately they lost out on both awards to Homeland.
Yes, enjoyed GGs last night. Regardless of who makes a speech, in the end it's a celebration of a lot of great work by a lot of artists.

‘The Newsroom’ on ‘The Daily Show’
Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer made a cameo appearance in a hilarious segment on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In the sketch they appeared at themselves on the set of The Newsroom. The segment explored the difference between real world investigative journalism and the fictional journalism of The Newsroom.
Daniels gives a Sorkin-esque monologue, but be warned, as this is The Daily Show it is highly political (just like The Newsroom). Check out the whole segment below. Daniels and Mortimer appear approximately four minutes in.
