Thor 2’s trailer has been released, as it seems that Marvel and Disney couldn’t quite wait until Thursday to release this brand new trailer for Thor: The Dark World, but that’s just fine with us.
As part of YouTube’s ongoing Geek Week, the new trailer for Thor: The Dark World was revealed to a hoard of eager fans this morning. After a brutal online countdown to the event, honorary Asgardians set their alarm clocks to wake up extra early to catch the trailer. Unless they were international, in which case they had to wait until all of the Americans finally stumbled out of bed.
In any case, we’ve provided it for you below to obsess over. Enjoy!
The trailer begins with a harsh conversation between Thor and his Asgardian prisoner brother, Loki. The God of Mischeif has a bit of a psychic fit and throws his prison furniture against the golden honeycomb force-field that’s keeping him in check.
Loki says that Thor hasn’t come to visit him in “all this time,” which means that he’s been paying his dues for what he did during The Avengers for quite a while.
Meanwhile, Thor’s super busy being the King of Asgard and everything (that must have happened between Thor and The Avengers, right? If not, we’ll certainly hear something about his royal status in The Dark World), but he still makes time to visit his brother and threaten to kill him. How nice.
Loki responds by saying that Thor would be a fool to trust him. We gotta side with the mischief god on this one.
Next we’re introduced to the darkness that came before the universe, obviously a nod to the dark elves led by Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston).
We see their ship tear through London, followed by Thor who transports himself to Earth to rescue his beloved Jane. We also get to see her punch Loki in the face and say “that’s for New York,” so there’s something for everyone.
This trailer shows off a lot more of the humor than the first trailer, and we noticed that a certain Game of Thrones-esque scene screened at Comic Con didn’t make the cut.
