Another new clip has been released for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. This time it shows Percy and Clarisse competing as they climb the obstacle tower.
In the clip above we see Percy getting a head-start on Clarisse. Her competitive personality is instantly tangible, and this is a great scene to set up their rivalry.
As the two of them climb the tower, they try knocking each other off. Percy gets the upper hand, however, and it looks like he’s just about to reach the top and win the race.
Except for the boy who is caught on the rope latter and is being dragged around and around, yelling for help. Percy rolls his eyes and jumps down to help him, thus allowing Clarisse to reach the summit first.
While the obstacle tower looks great, and Leven Rambin seems wonderful as Clarisse, we’re a little hesitant to believe that the campers are so acrobatic. Regardless, the scene is exciting and it’s nice to see Percy and Clarisse putting their skills to use as they train.
Over the last week or so we’ve gotten a couple of other clips from the movie. The first one showed us the Chariot of Damnation and the Gray sisters in an action-packed sequence involving the trio and Percy’s half brother Tyson.
The second one showed Annabeth trying to convince Dionysus to grant her a quest (against Grover’s will) to go after the Golden Fleece, which she believed would cure Thalia’s tree and save Camp Half-Blood.
The third one shows the scene where Percy visits the oracle in the attic and learns about the myth of Kronos and his role in defeating him for a second time.
Sea of Monsters opens up on August 7, starring Logan Lerman (Percy), Alexandra Daddario (Annabeth), Brandon T. Jackson (Grover), Jake Abel (Luke), Leven Rambin (Clarisse), and Douglas Smith (Tyson). Stanley Tucci will play Dionysus, Nathan Fillion will play Hermes, and Anthony Stewart Head will replace Pierce Brosnan as Chiron.
