New Girl‘s Nick and Jess may have shared their first kiss last week, but don’t expect them to get together anytime soon. Odette Annable has been cast as Nick’s new boss and love interest.

TV Line reports that Odette Annable will join New Girl as Shane, “a perky and preppy management school grad who is Nick’s new boss at the bar.” Annable will join the cast in a recurring role as a love interest to Jake Johnson’s Nick. Shane takes to Nick and unashamedly has a fling with him.

This of course means that the Nick and Jess relationship won’t be in place when Shane comes into the mix. On Wednesday Liz Meriwether told us that the Nick and Jess relationship won’t be happening instantly:

I think this came out of the blue and surprised both of them and I think they’re like struggling to deal with if they want to be a couple and how each one of them feels. Obviously Jess is in a relationship and they live together and Nick is like kind of a screw up, I guess, is a polite way of saying it. I think there’s just a lot of stuff that they need to get through and figure out.

As Annable has just been cast, she likely won’t join the show for at least a couple episodes, so the inevitable Nick and Jess relationship won’t come for a while.
