After checking “Host the Oscars” off his bucket list (um, we want his life), Neil Patrick Harris doesn’t think he’ll ever take another turn at the Academy Awards.
There was a lot of excitement leading up to the 2015 Oscars, because Neil Patrick Harris was bound to pick off where Ellen DeGeneres left off and give us a night of friendly, light, satirical fun.
While Harris definitely had his moments – the visual Birdman/Gone Girl bit was brilliant – overall his performance was met with mixed reviews.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Harris offered some insight into just how carefully planned the night was.
“It’s so difficult for one who’s simply watching the show to realize just how much time and concession and compromise and explanation has gone into almost every single thing,” he says. “Every joke. Wording of joke. Placement of joke. Canceling of joke. Embellishment for just one line.”

And while Harris has heard your “understandable opinionated response,” he did ultimately have a great time. “I thought that those in the audience at the Dolby [Theatre] seemed to be enjoying themselves more as the show went on, when I was told that the opposite would be true,” he reflects.
The publication also notes that despite the criticism of Harris’ performance, a majority of viewers would want him to return next year. Unfortunately, that seems unlikely to happen.
“I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it,” he admits. “It’s a beast. It was fun to check off the list, [but] I don’t know that it’s a delightful balance to do every year or even again.”
