Get ready, everyone. Negan is approaching.
The Good Wife co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast as Negan on The Walking Dead season 6, TV Line reports. As any reader of the comics knows, Negan is easily the worst villain Rick and the gang come across in the walker world.
Negan is expected to appear in the back half of season 6, meaning we’ll have to wait a few more months before we get to see him on screen. He’ll likely return as a series regular in season 7.
The character is the leader of the Saviors and makes his debut in Issue 100 of The Walking Dead comic series. Negan is a character who uses his influence to protect communities in exchange for payments like physical goods. Negan’s arc may also introduce us to other communities like the Hilltop Colony and The Kingdom.
Negan also has an important scene with Glenn in the comics, which is one reason why many are skeptical of Glenn’s “death” a few weeks ago. In fact, the most recent episode of Dead may’ve proven that Glenn is alive. Or maybe not.
If Glenn’s death is truly a fake out (we think it’s a fake out), we think it was added to the show to create a more emotional moment for Glenn when he encounters Negan later on in the season.
After the horrible things that went down with the wolves at Alexandria a couple of weeks ago, we’re eager to see how the show will pull off an even greater threat like Negan. Season 6 of The Walking Dead has felt like the end times on the show, and the characters have yet to face their biggest enemy yet. Alexandria needs to train their community on using weapons STAT!
You may also recognize Morgan from roles on Grey’s Anatomy, Extant, and Supernatural.
The Walking Dead season 6 continues this Sunday. A trailer reveals that this episode will focus on Daryl, Abraham, and Sasha, who are still out on the road after the walker re-route plan fell to pieces:
