Muse will reportedly perform at the London Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday.
The band’s drummer told music magazine NME that the British rockers were asked to perform at the closing ceremony after writing the official song of the Olympics, “Survival.”
“I’m happy with the song. It’s a proper Muse song,” drummer Dom Howard told NME of “Survival.” “It’s not something we just did for the Olympics. They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music, but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [playing the] closing ceremony and they loved it. It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is.”
George Michael tweeted Tuesday that he was rehearsing for Sunday’s event. The Who and the Spice Girls are also rumored to perform, though London Olympics officials are refusing to confirm.
An album of the closing ceremony performances, A Symphony of British Music: Music for the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, drops Aug. 12. Muse’s sixth studio album, The 2nd Law, is due in October.
