The popular children’s book series Mr Men and Little Miss are coming to Hollywood. As for a storyline? Your guess is as good as ours.
In 1971, British author Roger Hargreaves launched a national phenomenon when he introduced Mr Men, a children’s book series featuring a variety of boldly drawn characters that each represent a thing, an emotion, or a state of being.
First came Mr Tickle, inspired by Hargreaves’ son Adam (who would continue the series after his father’s death). Then followed 48 more books, that focused on characters like Mr Happy, Mr Greedy, Mr Nonsense and Mr Wrong.
There is also an accompanying 42-book series of books focusing on female characters like Little Miss Sunshine, Little Miss Bossy and Little Miss Giggles.
The characters are a worldwide phenomenon, with more than 120 million copies sold, and translations in 15 different languages.
And now, Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy has picked up producing rights to the series, planning an animated feature starring some of the iconic figures.
So how is this going to work? We might look to the animated series The Mr. Men Show, in which the characters interact with each other in humorous ways, seeing as they can only really display their primary emotion:
It’s curiously similar to Pixar’s upcoming feature Inside Out, which centers on a group of characters who are literally emotions inside someone’s head.
