The box office numbers for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 are in: The film is a huge success.
Mockingjay, Part 1 made $123 million at the United States box office since opening on Thursday night. Internationally the film made $152 million for a worldwide total of $275 million.
The threequel’s opening is the largest in 2014, surpassing Transformers’ $100 million opening in June.
Despite the impressive record, Mockingjay, Part 1’s opening total is the smallest of the three films in The Hunger Games series so far. The first film made $152 million and the sequel made $158 million during their respective opening weekends.
Since next year’s Mockingjay, Part 2 is the final film in the series, you can expect the last story to bring in a larger audience than Part 1 did opening weekend.
