The final instalment of the Merlin series 5 DVDs has been released in the U.K., and now you can watch the selection of deleted scenes included!
Sadly there were not too many deleted scenes this time around. The first one shows Gaius working in his study, and next up we see Merlin running through the castle corridors, stealing food for Arthur from another servant. He tries to explain away why he overslept, and Arthur guesses the tavern or the forest. They contemplate a plum, but their banter is interrupted when Leon informs Arthur that they found the sorceress.
In the next clip, Gaius watches Merlin ride away. Then, Morgana and Mordred discuss the final battle. “Do not forget what we’re fighting for, Mordred,” Morgana tells him. “We’re fighting for freedom, from fear and prejudice.” Mordred replies that, “I have not forgotten. But I wonder if war is the only answer.” Morgana insists that he can’t reason with a man like Arthur, but Mordred isn’t sold. “He may yet change,” he says. “I believe there is goodness in him.” Sadly, Morgana manages to sway him back to her side. Oh, Mordred.
Another Mordred and Morgana scene follows this, where Morgana tells him about the cave and how she trapped Merlin there. We also get some battle action with the knights; Percival is holding up a dying man and shouting out for Gwaine to help some of the others.
And finally, there’s a short scene between Merlin and Arthur as Arthur is dying, and a clip where Percival tells Gwaine that, “if I ever find Morgana, I’ll kill her.”
If you missed them, you can watch the deleted scenes from the first half of the series right here on Hypable. Last night we also posted a summary of the finale commentary, which featured showrunner Julian Murphy and Katie McGrath (Morgana), as well as the final blooper reel from the show.
Hypable’s Merlin podcast Talks of Camelot has just started its series rewatch, and released their commentary for 1×01 “The Dragon’s Call”! They also dedicated an episode to discussing the fifth series as a whole, and reflecting back on the way in which Merlin ended.
