Merlin is on its last legs, and if fans are hoping for a movie to continue the story, they may be disappointed. Read Colin Morgan’s thoughts about it here.
Following last week’s announcement that this season of Merlin is the show’s last, the actors have given a number of interviews reacting to the imminent end of the series.
Colin Morgan has spoken to the Radio Times about his feelings regarding the announcement, and also what he thinks about the idea of a movie continuing the story (which the showrunners have been hinting at previously).
“To do any more would possibly go down an avenue that would lead to people being unsatisfied. I think it’s important to end on a high,” Morgan says.
But as sad news as this is for fans who had been hoping for more Merlin, one of the reasons Morgan doesn’t want to see the story continue past the finale is because he was, “very, very pleased” with the way the BBC series ends, “and I believe the fans will be too.”
He says, “When I read the final episodes I was extremely pleased with them. I was also shocked – they were very unexpected.”
Morgan also teases that there are a few surprises in store for the audience, and especially if you expect the story to turn out like the legends.
What do you think is going to happen in the final few episodes?
Another part of his Radio Times interview has been released, in which Morgan talks about his favourite memories making the show and his plans for the future.
Recalling his first day on set, he says, “it was just a huge adventure and I very much look back on that time as being very exciting. It was the beginning of an era.”
Morgan also discusses the hilarious scene in the last episode, where he plays an old woman. “It was definitely a bit of a challenge,” he says. “But it was very exciting getting to get the chance to play essentially three different characters in one episode. It was a lot of fun.”
Merlin will conclude with the two-part series 5 finale airing December 29.
