Watch Mordred perform his knight’s duties in a sneak peek for Merlin‘s fifth episode of series 5, entitled “The Disir.”
The clip shows Mordred getting ready to depart Camelot, and Sir Elyan tells him that he’s forgotten his dagger – and his water bottle. Sir Percival adds that he’s missing a boot… but they’re just teasing him of course, because they’re a band of merry men! (Oh wait, this isn’t Robin Hood).
Merlin asks Arthur if he really thinks this is a good idea, sending Mordred out even though he’s very young (probably a reminder for the audience, too, since he looks about the same age as the rest of them), but Arthur only says, “He’s a good fighter, a brave knight.” And he’s more than willing to give Mordred a chance.
Gwen stands to see them off, and tells Merlin that he must take care of Arthur – but as Merlin reminds her, “He doesn’t always make it easy.”
Presumably, the knights are departing to save Camelot from this week’s threat, namely the Disir. Arthur has somehow managed to bring down the wrath of the gods against him, putting all of Camelot in danger unless he is willing to make “the ultimate sacrifice.” But luckily Merlin will be there to save the day, except to do so this time requires him to make an impossible choice. We’re scared!
