British actor James D’Arcy joins the cast of Agent Carter as an important supporting member of Peggy’s staff.
James D’Arcy has been cast in the role of Edwin Jarvis in Marvel’s upcoming mini-series Agent Carter. Jarvis is Howard Stark’s butler, and will provide aid and support for Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) as she begins the work of creating S.H.I.E.L.D.
Fans of the Marvel Universe will be instantly familiar with the name Jarvis – what Tony Stark calls the artificial intelligence system which runs his Iron Man suits in the modern day. It’s clear that D’Arcy’s character will have had a powerful impact on Howard Stark’s son.
It still too soon to say whether or not this influence will not be portrayed on Agent Carter, however. The miniseries begins in 1946, meaning that any potential appearances by a young Tony are several years off. It is also still unknown whether or not Dominic Cooper will reprise his role as Howard Stark on Agent Carter.

James D’Arcy has had a variety of roles in British and American productions, including 2012’s Cloud Atlas. He will soon be seen in the second series of ITV’s Broadchurch, and Jupiter Ascending.
D’Arcy joins actors Enver Gjokaj and Chad Michael Murray, who have been cast as Agents Daniel Sousa and Jack Thompson respectively.
Agent Carter will be helmed by Resurrection showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. Early episodes will be directed by Captain America: The Winter Solider directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and possibly Joe Johnson of Captain America: The First Avenger.
Set in New York City in 1946, Agent Carter will follow Peggy as she builds S.H.I.E.L.D. – and continues the fight against lingering HYDRA infiltrators. On a personal level, Peggy will cope with her continued grief at losing Steve Rogers, while asserting herself as female leader and spy in the regressive atmosphere of post-war America.
The eight episodes of Agent Carter will serve as a mid-season break for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and will air in that show’s time slot on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m.
