Despite meeting the grim reaper in The Amazing Spider-Man, actor Martin Sheen has revealed that he will indeed be back for the sequel.
Sheen played Uncle Ben in the Spider-Man reboot which starred Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the lead roles of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.
“Well, they called me back. I don’t know what the part’s going to be but I’m going to be Uncle Ben once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot in February,” he told RTÉ’s The Late Late Show.
In recent months The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has added Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Jamie Foxx as the lead villain, and Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson. Marc Webb will be returning to the franchise as director.
How will Uncle Ben be incorporated into the film? The obvious answer would be a flashback, but the big question is whether or not this flashback plays a critical role in the overall storyline. At the least it will be a few seconds of remembrance from inside the head of Peter Parker. Alternatively we could see numerous flashbacks throughout the storyline that motivate Peter.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens April 18, 2014. The first film made over $750 million worldwide and viewed as a critical success, eventually scoring a 73% average rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
