Mark Ruffalo is like a unicorn: one of the only Marvel stars who is not slated to appear in Captain America: Civil War. Or… is he?
Last week, Marvel officially unveiled their line-up for Captain America: Civil War. The third movie about Captain America (Chris Evans) features so many Avengers, and introduces so many new players to the MCU, fans are now joking that Cap’s role has been reduced to a cameo.
Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, pitting Captain America against his ally Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Their fellow Avengers Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and the Vision (Paul Bettany) now all have to pick sides in the war that follows.

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is one of only two main characters from Avengers: Age of Ultron who is not slated to return for what is clearly The Avengers 2.5 (the other being Chris Hemsworth’s Thor).1`
So when Ruffalo began tweeting about Civil War on Thursday, fans were understandably confused. Was he just wishing his colleagues good luck… or is he involved after all?

The link takes you to Ruffalo’s Tumblr (because of course he has Tumblr. Ruffalo rocks), on which he writes, “Welcome to the wild party! Looking forward to this amazing cast.”
Now, we’re pretty sure Marvel would actually have included him in their press release, if Bruce Banner was indeed appearing in the movie.

However, it’s worth noting that Civil War is re-introducing William Hurt’s General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a supporting character in The Incredible Hulk (which is considered part of the MCU timeline, despite Edward Norton playing the titular character).
If the Hulk’s past is coming back into play, maybe it’s not totally unreasonable to speculate that Ruffalo might appear, if only for a couple of scenes? Considering where we left him at the end of Ultron, we might be looking at flashback scenes, to remind the audience of his connection to William Hurt’s character.
Captain America: Civil War also stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Emily Van Camp as Agent 13, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Martin Freeman in a mystery role. The movie is set to introduce new players Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Spider-Man, and potentially Captain Marvel.
Do you think the Hulk might show up in ‘Captain America: Civil War’?
Even if he doesn’t, at least Mark Ruffalo gets to Hulk out in real life… sort of.
