Marvel TV and Netflix took to the stage with Luke Cage in Ballroom 20 for the first time at San Diego Comic-Con. Jeph Loeb and the cast brought several sneak peeks for the fans.
The Luke Cage panel was filled with surprises including John Bernthal stepping out at the beginning of the panel to talk a little bit about playing the Punisher. He said, “I take playing the character as a enormous responsibility and honor. It makes me go home and hug my family a little harder.”
Jeph Loeb then brought out Cheo Coker, the showrunner for Luke Cage. Cheo talked about how important Luke Cage is for him as a hero of color, especially in the comics world. Cheo also discussed the vibe of the show which is established through the use of music. When discussing the show Cheo said, “It has a musicality to it. It is the Woo Tang-ification of the Marvel universe. Each episode is named after a Gang Starr rap song. There is a rhythm to how everything is connected and the pacing is relentless.”
Jeph Loeb also showed the teaser trailer for the actual trailer which has yet to be seen. In the trailer you get a clear image of how Luke decides to fight for his city and just how he goes about doing it.
There was also a sizzle reel depicting all three of Marvel’s Netflix shows (so far), with the added bonus of a Punisher scene.
The panel ended with a brief video of Finn Jones popping up on screen on the set of Iron Fist. We got a brief look at what happens to Danny as a child and a brief look at his re-entry to the world. Watch below:
The last thing fans saw was a look at The Defenders, the series that will bring all of the heroes together. It was a brief introduction featuring the primary members with the Defenders logo at the end which was a open hand, palm up with the word “Defenders” across it.
As fans left Ballroom 20 they were also treated to an Iron Fist poster.
