Lemony Snicket, the author of A Series of Unfortunate Events, stands with Planned Parenthood.
With the government threatening to cut funds to the women’s health organization Planned Parenthood, A Series of Unfortunate Events author Lemony Snicket is stepping in to help.
The author announced Monday that he and wife Lisa Brown are making a $1 million donation in light of the organization’s recent struggles — on top of what they’ve been donating for years.
Lemony Snicket, real name Daniel Handler, tweeted:
.@lisabrowndraws & I are giving 1 million dollars to @PPFA. We’ve been very fortunate, and good fortune should be shared with noble causes.

Snicket’s wife told Buzzfeed, “It’s a great organization that has provided top-quality health care for countless women and families in our lives. This year, Planned Parenthood has gone through a series of unfortunate events, and it felt right to make our support more public and more dramatic.”
A series of unfortunate events, indeed! Anti-abortion activists are currently urging Congress to defund the free clinic, after the release of videos that suggest the organization is involved in illegal organ harvesting and trading. The producer of the videos has since admitted to CNN that he manipulated the footage.

Planned Parenthood not only helps women in need of abortion assistance, but also provides affordable healthcare, birth control information and check-ups for women, men and young people across the United States. It receives about $500 million in federal funds each year.
Several studies reported by Yahoo! have shown that a majority of Americans oppose the defunding of Planned Parenthood.
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is being adapted for Netflix. Snicket’s novels tell the story of the orphaned children Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, who must fight against the evil Count Olaf, as they seek to discover the secret of their parents’ death.
