The CW has given an official series order to the previously announced spinoff from Arrow and The Flash, which will be titled Legends of Tomorrow.
We found out about the upcoming “superhero team-up” series back in February and have since heard a number of intriguing casting announcements. Now we have an official order for the series, which was expected.

The logline for the series reads as follows:
“When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series was ordered sight unseen and has yet to film a pilot, though a trailer is expected to be shown at The CW’s upfront presentation on Thursday, May 14.
The cast will include Arrow‘s Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom) and Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/Canary) and The Flash‘s Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), and Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/half of Firestorm). Joining these established characters will be three heroes who have never appeared on television played by Ciara Renée (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), and Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson/Mystery Hero).
Legends of Tomorrow is executive produced by Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim. Berlanti and Kreisberg are also behind The Flash and the upcoming Supergirl series that was just picked up by CBS.
Along with Arrow, The Flash, and iZombie, Legends of Tomorrow makes four DC Comics properties on The CW for the 2015-16 season.
