Star Wars: The Force Awakens villain Kylo Ren might throw another temper tantrum when he finds out his precious Darth Vader helmet is a fake…
He may be a bad guy, but Kylo Ren definitely isn’t as intimidating as the Star Wars merchandising team wants us to think he is.
The would-be Sith Lord spent a good part of The Force Awakens trying to (misguidedly) live up to his grandfather’s legacy, worshiping Darth Vader and even talking to his half-melted helmet like a crazy person.

Fans have been wondering why on Earth Force-Ghost-Anakin hasn’t been by to whoop his ass and set him straight, but here’s a better question: Is it even Darth Vader’s helmet he’s worshiping?!
Here’s the alleged Darth Vader helmet from The Force Awakens:
Neat, huh? But Dave Prowse, the actor who lent his body to Darth Vader in the original Star Wars saga, revealed on Facebook what the actual burned helmet looks like:
That’s the actual, physical prop from the set, which was burned and singed to reflect the events of Episode VI.
The helmet looks like it’s made out of hair, but according to The Mary Sue, it’s actually fiberglass:
Fiberglass is made out of, well, fibers, although it doesn’t look fibrous until it’s burned. Other pictures of burned fiberglass will reveal that, rather than melting, it splits off into singed hairs that look a little like Wookiee fur. The helmet that Kylo Ren has in The Force Awakens looks more like plastic, or blown glass — not fiberglass.
Whether or not this is Kylo or the moviemakers’ fault remains to be seen — and let’s get real, this has no bearing on canon, it’s just a fun little fan thing. But honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised if this WAS 100% canon. After all, we imagine Snoke would do just about anything to get Darth Vader’s grandson on his side, even planting a fake helmet somewhere for him to find.
Shhhh, nobody tell Kylo. It’d break his fragile heart.
Check out this video, in which Star Wars Minute shares an excellent (and more plausible) theory about just how Kylo Ren got a hold of Darth Vader’s helmet:
