Billboard announced today that Justin Bieber’s new album Believe Acoustic debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, marking the fifth time the artist has taken the lead slot.
The music publication asked the artist about this news when it was just a possibility several weeks ago. “I feel blessed that I’m able to do what I love for a living,” said Bieber. “I can support my family. I grew up without a lot. I remember ordering food off the menu with my mom and we’d have to share because we couldn’t afford more. I love performing. When I go onstage and I see these people? That’s what I do it for.”
To Bieber, having so many number one albums is validation for his talent and success. “It shows that I’m still making good music and people are supporting me and I’m not going anywhere any time soon. This is just an acoustic album of an album that I’ve already put out and it’s going to go No. 1 – that shows people that I’m still here and that talent rises above everything else. There’s so much going on. Talent rises above all of that.”
Justin Bieber’s Believe Acoustic is largely made up of tracks found on his Believe album, but in acoustic form. It includes three entirely new songs, including one about his break-up with Selena Gomez. Listen to it here.
At the current pace Bieber is on, he could continue churning out number one albums for years to come.
Thanks, Billboard.
