Major news in the super hero world: Buffy creator and Avengers director Joss Whedon is lining up a Batgirl project.
Variety has learned that “Whedon is nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl pic for Warner Bros. as part of its DC Extended Universe.”
The news is significant, as Whedon will be the first director jump from the MCU to the DCU. It’s also significant because it is one of very few female-led super hero projects in development (Wonder Woman, out this summer, is the first female-led super hero movie in the modern era).
It’s also significant because, you know, IT’S JOSS WHEDON DIRECTING A FEMALE SUPER HERO MOVIE FOR WB!
The project is still in its early days, so Joss Whedon’s Batgirl movie currently lacks a release date or star.
