John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight has made it its mission to inform the world about uncomfortable topics. This week, it’s the Syrian refugee crisis.
As you know if you are a citizen of Planet Earth, Europe is experiencing the largest influx of refugees since World War II. People are fleeing from ISIS and the Syrian civil war, trekking across the world in hope of finding a safer place than the one they left behind.

While some countries like Germany and Sweden have done their best to accommodate the huge amounts of people seeking refuge, others — Denmark, Hungary and the Netherlands included — are less welcoming.
John Oliver is here to call them all out, and to highlight the story of one young wheelchair-bound Syrian refugee, who is literally all of us: her biggest worry, in a bittersweet twist of events, turns out to be the breakup of her favorite TV romance.
Enter John Oliver to not only explain the crisis to the rest of us, but to give this girl what all fans dream about. We couldn’t think of anyone who deserves it more:
We hope Nageen gets a kick out of seeing EJ (James Scott) and Sami (Alison Sweeney) reunite in her honor!
Meanwhile, in real life, the refugee crisis continues to be a huge issue, with no one quite knowing how to accommodate all the people who need our help.
But there’s a tiny silver lining: we’re seeing huge amounts of money collected to assist the aid workers, and to support the refugees still trying to find homes in Europe. For everyone trying to cast the refugees in a bad light, there are plenty of people working to help solve this tragic humanitarian crisis.
Authors like John Green and J.K. Rowling even got in on the fundraising action, and you can find out about their efforts, and how to help, right here.
