New York Times bestselling author John Green was a speaker at this year’s BookExpo America, and on his most recent video on his YouTube channel, he talks meeting various authors including Glee‘s Chris Colfer.
John Green raved about BEA, saying that “It feels like the world treats books the way they usually treat iPads.” He talked about meeting Chris Colfer, saying that Colfer “Turned out to be an extraordinarily nice and generous and quick-witted person.” Green is a noted Glee fan, as he has previously said that he watches the show with his son, and he was quite excited when he learned he and Colfer were both going to be at the event:
This means I will be meeting Chris Colfer. TRY NOT TO FREAK OUT, GUYS.

Green also talked about how nervous he was to meet certain authors such as Jeffrey Eugenides, saying, “I spent about ten minutes filming Mr. Eugenides from the back before I got up the courage to shake his hand.” Green also said, “As I geeked while talking to Mr. [Darin] Strauss, I realized that even though I liked Chris Colfer a great deal, I hadn’t felt nearly so nervous around him. He was just a guy, albeit an uncommonly handsome and well dressed one, but around Eugenides or Darin Strauss I was shaking.” We think it’s cool that even though John Green is a New York Times bestselling author, he still gets nervous while meeting idols.
It should be noted that the audience of this video is John and his brother Hank’s internet audience (called nerdfighters), so there may be references that the non-nerdfighter may not pick up.
While at the BEA, the new cover for John Green’s second book, An Abundance of Katherines, was released. It was designed by nerdfighter Sarah Turbin.
