The Fault in Our Stars author John Green hosted a reader Q&A today on Goodreads, and we wanted to share a couple of the things he had to say to fans.
The first question concerned his book Looking For Alaska. The reader said that when they first picked up the book, they were fully expecting a story about the state of Alaska. “Yeah, in retrospect we should’ve called it something else maybe, because I think a lot of people are expecting an adventure novel,” said Green. “But now the book has established itself well enough that people just give it to their friends or explain that it’s about a girl named Alaska, which is wonderful, because it gets to have both an audience and the title I wanted it to have.”
Later in the interview a reader asked him for Young Adult recommendations, to which he said he could recommend hundreds. Instead of listing them all, he offered up some picks from 2013 so far: Just One Day by Gayle Foreman, Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, Beneath a Meth Moon by Jacqueline Woodson, and Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell.
Elsewhere in the interview, Green answered a question about whether he’d write a fantasy novel by saying he’s “truly awful” at fantasy writing. Hit Goodreads to read the full reader-generated Q&A.
