Jimmy Kimmel is eyeing his second turn as host of the 2016 Emmy Awards, according to a new report.
The Hollywood Reporter cites unnamed sources when reporting that Jimmy Kimmel (best known as the host of ABC’s late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! has entered talks to host the 2016 Emmy Awards.
If the rumor is true, this would be the second time for Kimmel, who last hosted the awards show in 2012.
Check out his opening monologue:
The Emmy Awards celebrate the best and brightest of the television industry, and is one of the most anticipated award shows. In 2015, Andy Samberg did a decent job as host, the highlight being his song and dance about all the shows he had yet to catch up with (we definitely identified with that!).

The big question is, do we actually want to see Kimmel return to the Emmys? There are definitely more interesting candidates to choose from right now, but it seems like NBC is going for the safe choice.
Picking Jimmy Kimmel for a second round makes sense for the network: Not only is Kimmel’s late night show doing fairly well, but he also fits what we might call the ‘Emmy host mold’: Previous hosts include Conan O’Brien, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Neil Patrick Harris, Ryan Seacrest, and Jane Lynch.
In 2015, the big awards went to Game of Thrones and Veep for Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series, respectively. Transparent‘s Jeffrey Tambor won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, while Veep‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus took home another Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series trophy. Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm and How to Get Away With Murder‘s Viola Davis earned the awards for Outstanding Lead Actor awards in the Drama category.
