Rom-com fans rejoice! Jennifer Lopez is officially returning to her roots and she’s already got a movie lined up!
Variety reports that Jennifer Lopez, who starred in a slew of rom-coms back in the early ’00s, is officially returning to the genre.
The actress has signed on to produce and star in Second Act, a romantic comedy being produced by STXfilms.
The production company describes the upcoming film as Working Girl meets Maid In Manhattan (which Lopez starred in along with Ralph Fiennes back in 2002). In it, Lopez will play a superstore employee whose life changes drastically after she gets the opportunity to show the big wigs on Madison Avenue that you don’t need a degree to be successful.
For her part, Lopez seems incredibly excited to bring this particular story to life. In a statement announcing her involvement with the project, Lopez said there are many reasons why she fell in love with the script when she read it.
“People try to put women to sleep at a certain age,” explained Lopez in a statement. “Second Act is a story that empowers the every woman to do more, to be more, and not limit their dreams. I am thrilled to partner with STX as they continue to create and empower the female audience.”
Lopez isn’t the only one who’s signed on to bring Second Act to life. The actress and singer is set to be joined by 50 First Dates director Peter Segal, who will be helming the project, along with scriptwriters Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Justin Zackham.
Most recently, Jennifer Lopez kept audiences at the edge of their seats in NBC’s hit crime series Shades of Blue. As much fun as it’s been seeing Lopez tackle a network drama, we can’t deny we’re looking forward to seeing her back in the rom-com genre — especially one which seems to be all about girl power!
