Steven Spielberg will direct Jennifer Lawrence in a movie chronicling Lynsey Addario’s experiences as a female war photographer.
After an intense bidding war this week, Warner Bros. and Steven Spielberg beat out George Clooney, Darren Aronofsky and Working Title for the rights to adapt Lynsey Addario’s memoir It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War.
Deadline reports that Jennifer Lawrence will star as Addario, a war photographer who won prestige in her male-dominated field to gain a Pulitzer Prize for her work.
Other actresses vying for the role were Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon and Margot Robbie.
Steven Spielberg will serve as director on the movie, with American Sniper‘s Andrew Lazar set to produce.
Lynsey Addario, whose book was published in February this year, has visited such war-torn countries as Afghanistan, the Congo and Libya.
In Libya, Addario was kidnapped and held captive by Gaddafi’s army, and has spoken candidly about her horrible treatment.
After her release, Addario told the press that, “It was incredibly intense and violent. It was abusive throughout, both psychologically and physically. It was very chaotic and very aggressive. For me, there was a lot of groping right away. Sort of everyone who had to pick me up and carry me somewhere, they would reach around and grab my breasts and touch my butt –everyone who came near me.”
The intense biopic will now enter the pre-production phase, and we’ll keep you updated as more info becomes available.
