The Lego Movie spin-off titled The Billion Brick Race will be penned and directed by Jason Segel and the writer of Iron Man 3.
The Lego Movie is not only getting a sequel, but also a spin-off!
The Billion Brick Race is in production at Warner Bros., and an interesting duo has been hired to helm the project.
Jason Segel is a pretty high-profile actor, best known for How I Met Your Mother and a variety of comedies including I Love You, Man, Bad Teacher and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

But he’s also a writer and producer, and back in 2011, he helped Disney revive The Muppets. That’s probably the main reason why Warner Bros. is now turning to him for the Lego Movie spin-off.
Segel will be working with Drew Pearce, whose major writing credit to date is Iron Man 3. Pearce is also working on the upcoming Sherlock Holmes 3, and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Segel and Pearce will be co-writing and co-directing Brick Race. The movie is based on Pearce’s original idea, and will be produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Dan Lin and Roy Lee.
This isn’t the only spin-off of the incredibly successful Lego Movie, of course. We’ve got Ninjago coming in 2016, The Lego Batman Movie in 2017, and of course the actual sequel in 2018.
