Jane the Virgin season 1, episode 16 picks up immediately after the failed proposal. Read on for the full recap.
It was a rough week for Jane and Rafael, following her saying no to his proposal. It was also a slow week, plot-wise, getting more into the emotional portions of the story. Let’s dive in!
Rafael is still smarting from Jane’s no to his proposal and he is dealing with it by being as busy as possible, especially when he is supposed to be with Jane. Jane knows that she needs to fix it but she also needs to fix her writer’s block. Michael provides an answer to one: he has a flyer for a writer’s workshop hosted by guest star Jane Seymour. During her first session, Jane inadvertently brings to light a fellow writer’s lack of passion in her own marriage.
On the home front, Rogelio and Xo finally found a home for the two of them. When Xo told Alba that she was moving out she was met with a surprisingly cavalier attitude. Now that it is a reality? The two fight bitterly, Alba saying that she will never get married now and that she will be back in a month. The two refuse to meet up at the salsa/concert later and don’t talk to each other at the house either.
Meanwhile, Aaron ends up giving Michael the USB drive he found at the end of the last episode. The only piece of information on it is a name, Tony Vaughn. Michael also reluctantly agrees to let Rogelio tag along as research for his telenovela. The two bond and Michael finds out that Jane said no to the proposal. At the festival later, Rogelio uses his gaggle of fans to stop Tony Vaughn from escaping. Michael also runs into his ex from before Jane, who just happens to be her newest friend from the writing workshop. Drama!
Petra and Rafael get some bonding time as well this week. The two are forced to take care of a big musical guest’s dog, and of course comedy ensues. He also asks Petra if him asking her to marry him after five months was too soon. Earlier Jane had forced the issue and told him that if he had asked anyone he would have known not to ask her to marry him and she wouldn’t have hurt him by saying no. Petra tells him that while it was sudden, she knew it was his need for a family that drove him.
After the concert and a fabulous fantasy dance sequence, Rafael finds Jane finally able to break through her writers block. He tells her that she was right about it being too soon to ask her and that it stems from his need of not wanting to lose a potential shot at having a family. The two make up and Jane convinces him to look for his mother. Which may or may not be a good thing…
