Sam Smith has been revealed as the writer and performer of the Spectre theme song!
After months of speculation, we’ve finally learned that the James Bond Spectre theme song will be performed by British artist and Grammy winner Sam Smith.
The song is called “Writing’s on the Wall,” and has already been recorded. It will be released on September 25, according to The BBC.
Update: According to Collider, the song is actually dropping tomorrow! Stay tuned!
The reveal came on Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio 1 show Tuesday morning.

“This is one of the highlights of my career,” Smith said, admitting that he was relieved to finally be able to talk about it. “I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.”
Smith said it took him 20 minutes to write the song, something which probably should raise some red flags — but he said the James Bond producers “loved it.”
Yesterday, Smith hinted at the reveal on Twitter and Instagram, posting the following image of a ring bearing the SPECTRE symbol:

For a long time, Radiohead was the rumored frontrunner for the honor. Other bookmaker favorites included Ellie Goulding, Lana Del Rey and Ed Sheeran. Smith himself has previously denied any attachment to Spectre, which only fuelled the speculation fire even further!
Of course, Sam Smith has a tough act to follow: Adele’s Skyfall theme, also titled “Skyfall,” won an Oscar for Best Song in 2013.

Will “Writing’s on the Wall” be as impactful as previous theme songs, like Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” and Madonna’s “Die Another Day”?
Directed by Sam Mendes, Spectre stars Daniel Craig as James Bond. The movie hits British cinemas on October 26, and premieres in the U.S. on November 6.
