Lucasfilm has announced that their Han Solo spinoff starring Alden Ehrenreich will co-star Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian!
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller in a statement. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
As Star Wars fans know, Lando is a good friend of Han Solo. He was the owner of the Millennium Falcon before he lost it to Han.
The movie will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and opens in 2018.
“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with,” the directors said in July. “We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”
Meanwhile, the search is currently on for the movie’s female lead.
What do you think about Donald Glover playing Lando?
The actor is best known for his role in Community as Troy Barnes, but he’s currently starring in the brand new series Atlanta, which airs on FX.
As if his role in Star Wars wasn’t enough, he’ll also be seen in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming from Marvel.
