Last night’s episode of Scandal season 4 found someone facing Papa Pope’s wrath — but was the attack as bad as we were led to believe?
The big question fans are asking after last night’s Scandal is simple: Did Jake really die? The question was not explicitly answered at the end of episode 19, which is why there’s such a big question mark lingering within the fandom.
There are some clues supporting both sides of the argument.
Jake is dead
The evidence suggesting that Olivia’s old lover is now a goner is as follows:
– Jake was clearly stabbed viciously several times. How can someone survive that?!
– The characters believe he’s dead, according to the preview for next week.
– Olivia and Jake had one of those “moments” that the writers purposely put in to make his “death” pack more punch:
– Actor Scott Foley and co-star Joshua Malina are tweeting like he’s dead:
It has been a real pleasure working with @scottkfoley. #Scandal

So, there it is. Thank you Twitter for tonight and all of the Thursday nights. It's such an honor. #Scandal

Jake is alive
The evidence suggesting Jake is alive comes in three photos and is extremely strong. ABC has already released stills from Scandal season 4, episode 21 (airing two weeks from now), and they depict Jake in a bed recovering from his wounds. These appear to be in present day as Olivia checks in on him. Take a look:
The photos were taken down from ABC’s press site after they started floating around the internet, but unfortunately it’s too late to put a lid back on this secret.
Maybe Olivia and her team will pretend Jake is dead so they can stop Papa Pope from going after him again. If Rowan finds out Jake is alive, he’d have no problem tracking him down and killing him for good.
Clearly Jake’s wounds were serious, as he’s still bid-ridden even two episodes after the stabbing took place. If he’s not dead yet, maybe he’ll die before season 4 is over. With Papa Pope and Olivia hard set on going after one another, it seems highly likely that someone important is going to die in these final few episodes.
Do you think Jake is dead on ‘Scandal’?
And if not, when do you think he will die? Many are hoping his passing is upon us.
Scandal continues next Thursday, April 23 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on ABC. Check out this preview in which we see Jake’s body lying in the offices of OP&A, and Rowan hearing that Jake “has been eliminated.”
