About ‘If We Fall’by K.M. Scott:
Ryder
I’ve protected Serena from everything I could in her father’s world, but with each horrible act he committed, I knew the time would come when protecting her wouldn’t be enough. When that day comes and it’s either Robert or me who survives, I will do what I have to so the woman I love and my child are safe.
May heaven help me.
Serena
Every day I grow stronger as the child Ryder and I created grows inside me. I’m no fool, though. I know my father will do everything in his power to keep his control over us. But I’m not that scared little girl I used to be anymore, and the time is coming when he will realize that.
We’re fighting for even more than love now. This time, we’re fighting for family.

‘If We Fall’ by K.M. Scott exclusive excerpt:
My eyes fixed on Serena smiling and holding something in her arms. I took two steps into the room and stopped at the foot of her bed.
“He’s here already? How? What happened? When did you go into labor?” I asked, unsure what to say as confusion, disappointment, and joy mixed together in my mind.
She beamed a smile and nodded. “He is. I guess when all that happened with Jesse, my labor started. I’m okay, though. Come look at him. He’s the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen in my life, Ryder.”
I stepped toward her and stopped dead as the realization of what I was seeing sunk in. “It’s a boy?”
Serena reached out and took my hand in hers. “He is, and he’s so beautiful. I can’t stop looking at him. He’s perfect in every way.”
She lifted him slightly so I could see his face, and I stood there speechless staring at him there in her arms. So tiny, his little head was covered in dark hair and he had the tiniest mouth I’d ever seen on a human being. And the tiniest nose.
“Isn’t he incredible?”
I wanted to say he was the most beautiful thing I’d seen in my life, but all my brain could do was tell my eyes to stay on that little face. His little face.
My son.
Serena squeezed my hand, pulling me out of my thoughts, and I looked down at her to see worry in her eyes. How could she be anything but blissfully happy with him there with her?
“What’s wrong?” I asked as he made a little cooing noise and stretched his hand out from beneath the blanket.
“You weren’t saying anything. I thought you weren’t happy. Are you happy?” she asked, her voice trembling with fear.
Leaning down, I pressed a soft kiss to her lips and whispered against them, “I’ve never been happier in my entire life, Serena. Thank you.”
Tears filled her eyes, and she smiled. “I didn’t do this alone. Look what we did, Ryder,” she said as she touched our son’s perfect fingers. “He’s got ten fingers and ten toes, and they’re all soft and new.”
Serena brushed her lips against his hand and giggled. “He even smells perfect. Wait until he opens his eyes. He’s all you, Ryder.”
I sat down beside her on the bed and kissed her on the cheek. “All us. Remember, we’re in this together.”
Turning to look at me, she nodded, smiling like I’d never seen her smile before. “The three of us. Ryder, Serena, and Cayden.”
“Cayden?” I asked as I tried to remember that name being mentioned as one of the possibilities we’d talked about all those nights we lay in bed.
“Yes. Cayden. It means fighter.”
Fighter. I didn’t want my son to ever have to know what I’d done in my life before that moment. All the times I’d used my fists to hurt another person made me cringe now.
“Just as long as he never steps foot in the ring, Serena. I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure he never sees that life.”
Tilting her head, she kissed his forehead and whispered, “Welcome to the world, Cayden. You are wanted, and even more, you are loved.”
