A tweet from actor Sam Claflin appears to reveal that the cast and crew are headed to Hawaii to film the all-important arena scenes for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
We’ve known for some time that shoots were set for the Aloha State, and Claflin’s tweet reveals he’s now there:
Woah! I don’t know where I am… I’ve just woken up to the sound of waves crashing on rocks, in a room I’m not familiar with. Welcome Hawaii

The Quarter Quell is believed to be the main focus of the Hawaii production. This occasion has been a long time coming – In July we learned filming will be taking place in Kauai. We’re making the safe bet that he’s arrived specifically for Catching Fire, though it wouldn’t surprise us if he showed up a bit early to enjoy a little vacation. Claflin plays Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games sequel.
Filming is expected to be wrapped by the end of December. The movie was shot far ahead of its Fall 2013 release in order to make sure Jennifer Lawrence was finished before she’s needed for the X-Men: First Class sequel.
We’ll keep an eye out for any on-set photos and pass them along to you if they surface.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens November 22, 2013. Earlier this week Lionsgate revealed the animated logo for the film.
