How We Hype is a twice-monthly feature on Hypable where we tell you what we’re doing in fandom over the weekend!
Reading ‘Allegiant’ – Andrew Sims
Confession: I haven’t read Allegiant. I was spoiled before it came out, and I was so bummed about learning what happened that I decided to put off reading it. Now that I’ve seen Insurgent, I’m very curious how this series ends — and how filmmakers are going to adapt the finale given what happens at the very end of the Insurgent movie.
Attending a live taping of ‘Talking Dead’ — Pamela Gocobachi
This weekend, my bestie and I will be taking our obsession with The Walking Dead one step further by attending a live taping of AMC’s official TWD aftershow, the Talking Dead. Hosted by Chris Hardwick, the show is known for its high profile panel of guests, which oftentimes includes famous TWD super fans and actors of the AMC series as well. We’re both ridiculously excited to see which actors from The Walking Dead wind up on the show this week and to hear them talk about what went down in this Sunday’s episode.
Recording ‘Rewatchable’s’ 100th Episode – Ariana Quiñónez
This Sunday we’ll be recording Rewatchable’s 100th episode LIVE during a Google hangout! After four completed television show cycles and over two years of podcasting, our 100th episode is sure to be a sweet walk down memory lane. We hope to see you all there! I’ll bring the champagne…
Reading ‘Leaving Amarillo’ – Kristen Kranz
After a non-stop week, I am more than excited to slow down a bit this weekend and bury myself in Caisey Quinn’s newest release. I’ve been hearing about this novel non-stop since some of my favorite authors (eh hem, Cora Carmack, eh hem) read their ARC copies back in January, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting its arrival on my kindle. It’s a brand new series from an author I’ve enjoyed reading before, so I can’t wait to read all about Dallas, Dixie, and Gavin in Leaving Amarillo.
Reading the ‘Raven Cycle’ by Maggie Stiefvater – Caitlin Kelly
I picked up the first book in the series, The Raven Boys, after seeing an increasing number of posts about it crossing my Tumblr dash. I’m currently about three-quarters through the first book, so plan to finish it and go on to the second book this weekend. It took a while for the book to get going, but after trudging through the first half or so, I was suddenly engaged with and intrigued by the story. I’m excited to see where the story goes from here, as there have already been several twists I didn’t expect.
Attending ‘Big Brother’ open calls – Tariq Kyle
Okay, so it’s not reading or watching something, but we have a pretty large Big Brother fan base here, so why not! I’ve never actually seen the show, and I don’t know if I would be any good, but I thought why not attend the Big Brother auditions? It might just end up as a good day in Los Angeles with friends, but it might end with a new opportunity.
Finally catching up with my girl Olivia on ‘Scandal’ – Marama Whyte
I’ll admit it, I have neglected Olivia Pope. I guess part of the Scandal appeal is binge-watching all of the soap opera developments in quick succession, not week-by-week. I am going away for the weekend, so it seems like the perfect time to catch up on Olivia’s train wreck of a life. Importantly, it will be a totally anti-Fitz zone, because he is the objective worst (#TeamOlivia, #TeamJake, #TeamLiterallyAnyoneOtherThanFitz). And I’ve just learned that Lena Dunham guest starred on the most recent episode, which can mean only one thing — Scandal was inspired by the best Saturday Night Live skit of all time. I can’t wait.
Binging ’30 Rock’… possibly – Selina Wilken
So I’ve been watching 30 Rock. Kind of. I feel like I need to educate myself on iconic comedy, but I have to confess: I’m just not into it. I like Friends. I like Parks and Rec. I like shows where comedy comes from the characters, not the other way around. While Liz Lemon is fantastic, and I identify with her so much, I have to say it’s hard to get invested when, after three seasons, I still don’t know all the characters’ names. But hey, it’s iconic, and damn it if I’m gonna give up now. I wish there was something to ship though.
Watching ‘Insurgent’ – Donya Abramo
Insurgent hits theaters in the U.K. on March 19, and I’ll be heading there as soon as I possibly can to watch it. I’m a casual fan of the books, and found the first film adaption enjoyable. I’ve been warned that there have been some substantial changes from book to film this time around, but I’m looking forward to seeing whether these changes were for better or worse. And what those changes might mean for Allegiant.
