How I Met Your Mother is so close to finally revealing the mother, but who will land the coveted role?! In a new interview, Josh Radnor shares his thoughts.
In the premiere episode of season 8, we saw the moment right before Ted finally met the mother, as he was waiting on the train station in Farhampton following Robin and Barney’s wedding.
Previously, the producers have hinted that maybe they have already cast the mother and shot scenes with her, but if they had, they certainly wouldn’t reveal it in a bid to keep her identity shrouded in secrecy.
There is of course lots of fan speculation about who should play the part, and some people are expecting a really big name actress to help intensify the reveal. But speaking to EW, Josh Radnor (Ted) shares his desire for the actress to be a relatively unknown.
“I don’t think it should be any sort of stunt casting,” he says. “I think it would be more interesting to have this fresh, exciting face that Ted has never seen before and neither have people who watch the show.”
He also reveals that he doesn’t know how the moment where they finally meet will actually unfold, but, “it’s kind of better for me not to know. It serves me to be a little more naïve and just play that truthfully.”
Meanwhile, we still don’t know whether the current season of How I Met Your Mother will be its last or whether the show will be extended for another season. At the moment we have to assume that the season will end with Robin and Barney’s wedding and the moment of truth where Ted and the mother finally meet, and then if the show is granted a ninth season, we will get to see more of how the pair’s relationship develops.
Who do you think should play the mother? Should it be a well-established actress, or a fresh face like Josh Radnor wants to see?
