What mediums will the Harry Potter franchise cross into next?
Queen Rowling has been quite busy as of late. Not only has she been hard at work on her Cormoran Strike novels, Pottermore and the upcoming Harry Potter stage play; there’s also another tiny little project also on her mind. The Fantastic Beasts movie trilogy.
When the spin-off film series was announced last September, Potter fans around the world squealed with delight. With a release date set for November 18, 2016, we have plenty of waiting time. Not to mention the fact that Warner Bros. also dated two “Event Films” for 2018 and 2020, which could very well be the second and third Fantastic Beasts films.
All of this is very exciting stuff for mostly everyone. But will this be the only major Potter project that Warner Brothers has in store? I doubt it.
Warner Bros also trademarked the other Harry Potter companion novels, Quidditch Through The Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, as well as terms and names within those books. Note that these trademarks don’t cover just films. And I’m sure they have their eyes set and many other aspects of the Potterverse.
What other spin-offs could we see? The First Wizarding War? The Hogwarts Founders? The Marauders? Auror stories? The possibilities are endless. Of course we want more spin-off movies, but the point is that they don’t all have to be JUST films.
Could there be live-action and/or animated TV series in the future? Star Wars: The Clone Wars did a great job at taking its universe to the small screen. Why can’t Harry Potter do the same? Just imagine it.
Any of the spin-off ideas fans have come up with could do wonders in this format. Of course we would need JKR to heavily be a part of the whole process to make it canon. What else could we see? Could there also be some kind of comics? Graphic novels? Non-movie-licensed video games that actually use this rich world to its full potential?
There are so many opportunities here. As long as J.K. is heavily involved, I’d be up for anything. The Harry Potter universe deserves to be explored. There are an infinite amount of stories just begging to be told. The mythology is there and waiting to be mined.
This is truly intended to spark discussion among the fans. What ideas do you have for the Wizarding World, and what forms of entertainment would you like to see them in? Sound off in the comments.
