The scores of each Harry Potter film will be performed live in their entirety in select cities around the United States.
CineConerts has teamed up with Warner Brothers to perform a series of concert tours for each Harry Potter movie beginning this summmer, Variety reports. The show “offers audiences a live symphony orchestra performance of the entire score in-sync with the film, which will be simultaneously projected onto a high-definition 40-foot screen.”
The original movie will play with the dialogue and sound effects, but the music will be removed so that the orchestra can perform it live.
This type of show is a unique experience. Like going to a live concert featuring your favorite band, a live performance of a film’s score will help you appreciate the intricacies of each song.
John Williams’ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone score will be the first to tour, and performances of the sequels are expected to follow in the years ahead. The Sorcerer’s Stone soundtrack features many memorable moments from the Harry Potter series, including “Harry’s Wondrous World” and the iconic “Hedwig’s Theme,” so attending a Sorcerer’s Stone show would be a very special experience. The tracklist for Sorcerer’s Stone is as follows:
- “Prologue”
- “Harry’s Wondrous World”
- “The Arrival of Baby Harry”
- “Visit to the Zoo and Letters from Hogwarts”
- “‘Diagon Alley, and Gringotts Vault”
- “Platform Nine-and-Three-Quarters / The Journey to Hogwarts
- “Entry into the Great Hall / The Banquet”
- “Mr. Longbottom Flies”
- “Hogwarts Forever! / The Moving Staircase”
- “The Norwegian Ridgeback / Change of Season”
- “The Quidditch Match”
- “Christmas at Hogwarts”
- “The Invisibility Cloak / The Library Scene”
- “Fluffy’s Harp”
- “In the Devil’s Snare / The Flying Keys”
- “The Chess Game”
- “The Face of Voldemort”
- “Leaving Hogwarts”
- “Hedwig’s Theme”
In addition, the orchestra will perform those smaller musical cues that aren’t found on the soundtrack.
The first performances will take place June 23 at Philadelphia’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts with the Philadelphia Orchestra. It’ll be followed by stops in the San Diego, Nashville, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, and Silicon Valley areas.
Tickets for the Philadelphia stop go on sale February 20.
Other popular films including those in the Star Wars and Pixar worlds have been given similar concert experiences.
At his shows, John Williams still occasionally performs music from the Harry Potter movies. His annual performances at the Hollywood Bowl are scheduled to take place this September.
