Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling announced today that The Tales of Beedle the Bard is now available as an eBook through the Pottermore Shop.

In making the announcement, Rowling spoke about how your purchase will benefit The Lumos Foundation.

Lumos was founded by Rowling in 2006. She explains in the video the work Lumos does. “All proceeds from the sale of the book go to Lumos, the charity I founded to help the 8 million children trapped in institutions around the world,” the author says. “These instu are incapable of adequately caring for children, robbing them of their childhoods and their institutions.”

“Lumos works to transform systems of caring for children, closing institutions, reunited families, and preventing other children from being institutionalized at all. Your donation not only helps individual children now, but also ensures the future for generations to come.”

In addition, an animated video with Rowling narrating can be seen below:

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is available for $5.99 in the Pottermore Shop. The book is the translated work of Hermione Granger in addition to commentary from Albus Dumbledore before the time of his passing. The book has five fairytales, all written by J.K. Rowling. Seven handwritten copies were made by Rowling and given to her closest friends and co-workers as a thank you gift for Harry Potter. It was initially published in December 2008.

The Pottermore Shop now has all of the Harry Potter books by Rowling. These include the original seven, Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages, and Fantastic Beats and Where To Find Them.
