Toronto, Canada has gotten its first Harry Potter-themed bar: The Lockhart is a must-visit for Muggles and wizards alike!
While subtle by design, The Lockhart is carefully constructed around the canon of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
Opened by Harry Potter fans Paris Xerx and Matt Rocks (who both identify as Hufflepuffs), The Lockhart aims to be a fan haven to the initiated, while also appealing to non-Potter fans.
Now Toronto‘s Natalia Manzocco visited the café, located at Dundas and Dufferin, and can report, “There’s a hidden Deathly Hallows symbol, a bar area designed to look like a modern apothecary, a small collection of Harry Potter POP! dolls, and a menu that features selections like ‘Befuddlement Brew,’ ‘The Shacklebolt’ and ‘Ludo’s Debt’.”

And yes, they’ll have Butterbeer, but with a different name. Obviously, this is an exercise in avoiding copyrighted phrases, but it looks like Xerx and Rocks are doing a pretty good job of that so far!
They’ve boosted their cocktail menu with homemade ginger beer and spicy rum, as well as nods to other fandoms (they’ve got a drink called “Mr. Manhattan”). All in all, a very inconspicuous — but heartwarming — haven for Harry Potter fans.
We’re also sure our readers will appreciate that this is in fact a place specifically designed for adults. Unlike more official efforts to make Harry Potter an institution for children, The Lockhart acknowledges that Harry Potter fans are grownups, too: even the people who were children when the books came out are all grown up now.
The Lockhart is located on 1479 Dundas West, at Dufferin, 647-748-4434. Visit them on thelockhart.ca, and follow them on Twitter @thelockhartTO.
As the sign on the wall proclaims: “All was well.”
